Unexpected finish for Louis-Philippe Dumoulin
NASCAR Pinty's Series: Second Round - Oval Track Circuit - Jukasa Motor Speedway
June 16th, 2018: « Rankin Construction 200 »
The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare Team was well prepared to display its strategy and performance last evening at the Jukasa Motor Speedway (Hagersville, Ontario). Starting 9th meant that Louis-Philippe Dumoulin had to push as hard as he could right from the start to catch up to the lead pack and eventually the lead. He made it to 3rd place quickly, but his climb through the leaders was interrupted by a flat right front tire on lap 140, due to debris on the track. Sent to the rear of the track twice on restarts. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin took advantage of every opening and a quick car to work his way back up to a brilliant 7th place finish.
A strong 7th place under the circumstances that Louis-Philippe Dumoulin had to deal with is almost as important as a podium finish. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin had a great day: no driving errors throughout the race, a drive-through penalty for a jumped start that effectively cost him a lap, a flat tire and bump in the wall, returning to the lead lap twice after penalties and odd circumstances, and some flag-to-flag tenacious driving to force the car by strong performers. His efficient and motivated team members also helped Louis-Philippe Dumoulin pull that great finish from the hat.
According to Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, "We were quick in the first practice session despite chronic understeer. We had to come up with settings that would work in qualifying on a hot midday track as well as on cold track in the evening, and also favouring the night set-up in this long race. The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car was wicked fast when the circumstances were favourable, proof that all the development and testing work on our oval program was right on the money."
