The #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team ends its season with a great finish on the podium

september 24, 2017

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin finishes fourth in the driver championship

After taking the start from last place (20th) on the grid yesterday, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin put on an incredible show for the 90 guests from WeatherTech Canada in attendance at the Jukasa Motor Speedway to provide support for their driver and team. Everyone on the team was under a great deal of pressure and working hard all day on suspension settings to correct an understeer problem and then changing engines between practice and the race.

The complex engine change was not completed in time for the qualifying session, forcing Louis-Philippe Dumoulin to start from last place in the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car, and then working his way through the field up to a fantastic third place finish.

The 200-lap race was strewn with incidents and yellow flag interruptions. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and the team made the most of their two pit stops during caution periods. The team put on two new right-side tires and fuel on laps 46 and 122, almost precisely when they wanted that to happen. Billy Burns, the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare crew chief then made a crucial decision: stay on track late in the race during the last caution period to gain track positions rather than stop for tires. This put Louis-Philippe Dumoulin in third position on the track, where he finished after managing his pace to perfection and holding position in front of quick cars with newer tires running him down.

After the race, the happy driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car told us that "We had to change engines, and the team was up to the challenge. That was big! A podium finish was exactly what we needed to close out the season on a great note. I had good fights with my brother Jean-François and the other lead cars throughout the race, and I am very proud of our team."
