THE #47 WEATHERTECH CANADA | GROUPE BELLEMARE TEAM WINS AT THE CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK

may 20, 2018

The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare Team won the « Clarington 200 » at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park after an incredible battle, especially over the last 15 laps of this 51-lap race. From his second starting position, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin pulled away from a small pack of drivers that were working hard to get up to him and pass him. This was after persistent rain on the Saturday had forced the cancellation of the single qualifying session, and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin had shown his potential by recording the quickest time (1:23.446) of a late practice session.

From second place on the grid, based on his points total from 2017, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin set a pace that kept him in front of the pack until his first pit stops for fuel and tires on Lap 16. Back on track, the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car rejoined the pack fighting for the lead in an intense, fair fight that showed how a little « Rubbib » produces some spectacular racing for the spectators.

The on-going battle came to a messy conclusion at corner 5B, the most important corner on the track as it leads to the long back straight and a good corner exit help top speed and hold competitors behind you. Two cars collided ahead of Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and opened the way for him to go from a close third place to the win, a fair prize for his patience and persistence over race distance.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was still working on realising that he had won the race at the start of the post race press conference. The question brought him back to reality and he reverted to his precise, articulate self quickly. "Things may have looked under control from the outside, but I was busy in the car, pushing as hard as I could from green to checkered. I was also dealing with a broken shifter, a windshield that was caving in at high speed, a slow leak with the first set of tires, and my boot laces caught on the throttle pedal - the sort of thing that would normally distract me from driving as precisely as I should. I left nothing on the table, and our great new engine was there to help me stay with the leading group to the bitter end. I was even talking to myself "Come on, let's go buddy". Every member on the team gave his and her all. The WeatherTechCanada | Groupe Bellemare Team is now up to the standards of the elite group of potential winners every time out." Explained an enthusiastic Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

As a final note, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin added that "I have found the winning feeling again, just like we all had when we won the championship in 2014."

Next event: Jukasa Motor Speedway, Hagersville, Ontario

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin will once again be on-track for the upcoming event on the Jukasa Motor Speedway oval circuit, this coming June 16th (start of the race at 8 PM).

Every $ 100 pays for a one-night stay at an FQC lodging facility for a cancer patient or support person.
