LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN ONE STEP FROM PODIUM AT HOME TRACK
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin ran a fantastic race today at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Fifth on the grid, less than one second off pole time thanks to the fabulous work of the team since the Toronto race, the local driver made full use of the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car potential throughout the race distance. Louis-Philippe stayed in the lead pack from the start to a brilliant 4th place finish after a hard-fought 53-lap race.
The brilliant second place achieved by Louis-Philippe Dumoulin on the Toronto Grand Prix's urban circuit sent a clear signal to everyone who saw that race : the #47WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car was now up to the speed of the leading group of Pinty's racers and capable of taking full advantages of any opportunity to gain a position that presented itself.
Between the Toronto race and the GP3R, the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare Team analyzed the performance of their machine and implemented a series of improvements to the chassis and suspension. Their only opportunity to validate their work was during the only Pinty's practice session held late on Saturday morning (August 12).
The car showed immediate improvements from the Toronto outing, and further changes made it better for the late afternoon qualifying session. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin qualified the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car in 5th place despite a small slide on his quickest lap, that cost him one or two tenths of a second. But more important, Louis-Philippe was proudest of the team's performance as he got out of the car, as he explained to us: "At Toronto, we qualified 1.3 seconds slower than pole position. Here, we are 0.338 sec from pole, a huge improvement on a track similar to Toronto. We have a great car and I will push it as hard as I can."
Before the start of the race, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin felt he had a podium car, capable of beating several of the leading drivers fighting for the 2017 Driver's Title. After the race, the driver explained how the car behaved over race distance: "The car changed a lot since Toronto. We still had understeer on corner entry today, changing to snap oversteer on exit. I adapted my driving style and was able to stay with the lead pack. We also learned something about that problem today, and will be ok for the remaining races this season. I also got into some great fights on track, such as going through the narrow Duplessis Ach side by side with Alex Labbé no less than three times on restarts. All good clean fun for the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car.
Louis-Philippe confirmed after the race that every modification to the car made in preparation for the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres worked perfectly, and that he expects similar gains at every remaining race in the season, on both oval and road courses. As he declared, "We can beat them!"
Tenth Race of The Season: Riverside International Speedway - August 19, 2017
The #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team is now off to the Atlantic Provinces, with the next event coming up next Saturday night (August 19) on the beautiful Riverside International Speedway, the oval track close to Antigonish (NS). Louis-Philippe Dumoulin loves to race there, so we can expect big things from the team.
"THE RACE AGAINST CANCER": beyond our greatest expectations!
When we launched the "Race Against Cancer" with the helo of the Quebec Cancer Society, we did not have specific expectations regarding the impact on race fans - we just wanted to help. Each signature helps ensure that cancer victims receive proper care and treatments. When we include the $900 contribution from Mr. Jason Best, Senior Vice-President, Secondary Markets at Spectra Premium, our program has raised$6224.00 so far this year, and we are not finished yet. Indeed, the adventure continues this coming Saturday evening (August 19) at Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
