Effective race strategy nets podium finish for the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin crosses the finish line in third place
NASCAR Pinty's Series: Tenth race - Road track - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park - August 26th, 2018

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin once again demonstrated how to protect your lead in a race for the driver championship. Starting from pole on the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course, the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare ran 51 faultless laps. Third at the second caution period (lap 24), the current championship leader started a race-long battle to protect his lead in the championship that brought him to third place at the finish.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin tackled the Saturday practice session (August 25th) from the strength of his lead in the driver championship, as well as looking for his fourth win of the season. Several set-up and tire combinations were tested, eventually allowing Louis-Philippe Dumoulin to score the quickest lap of the session.

Rain then forced the cancellation of the qualifying session, so that the times from the Saturday practice were used to set the starting grid for the race. This development meant that Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car started from pole position as per NASCAR rules.

The car suffered from a slight understeer for the first seven or so laps, until tire pressures and performance got up to par, after starting with too-low tire pressures given the weather and track condition.

"We are always looking for the win as well as keeping in mind that we need to maximise our points harvest for the championship. We got lucky entering the pits on our first stop, as I just slipped in before the caution period closed the pit entrance, forcing my competitors to go another lap before coming in, and all coming out again behind me. The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car was quick, and we are all somewhat happy with our third-place finish - this time!

Next race: Autodrome St-Eustache (September 8th, 2018)

The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team will be back on track at the Autodrome St-Eustache on September 8th for the last rush of three races that will close out the 2018 season.

  • In 2015, he finishes the NASCAR Pinty's championship in fourth place (2 podiums and six top-5s in eleven events);
  • 2014 champion of the NASCAR Pinty's series: 5 podiums and 2 victories, as well as 9 top-5s in eleven events. It is the first time that a team made up entirely of Quebecers wins this championship. (Prep. team: King Autosport, managed by Martin Roy);
  • Won the Gilles Villeneuve Trophy in 2014 and 2001. This trophy symbolizes the fighting spirit and on-track excellence of a Quebec-native driver throughout the season that just ended. It is the first time that a recipient of the Trophy wins it twice throughout their career;
  • Won, in 2013, the only Ontarian event to this day made up of an all-Quebecer podium (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park - NCATS series);
  • The only Canadian who climbed on the podium in 2012 during the prestigious event of the 12 hours of Sebring (2nd place - American Le Mans Series - GT3 Cup - WeatherTech Racing Team);
  • Won the title of rookie of the year in 2011 in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series despite having only participated in 8 races out of 13 (scoring four top-10s and two top-5s);
  • Crowned Canadian champion in Formula Ford 1600 in 2002;
