An unexpected race ending for JF Dumoulin

september 4, 2017

NASCAR Pinty's Series: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Jean-François Dumoulin had a storming start aboard the #04 Spectra Premium/ Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA car yesterday at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course. In fact, Jean-François shot past no fewer than six cars on the first lap on his way to a Top-5 position after taking the green flag from eleventh place on the grid. Unfortunately, gearbox problems late in the race slowed the car and forced him down the order by the end of the race.

The changes applied to the #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA car's suspension during and just after the Saturday practice session (September 2) worked out. According to crew chief Robin McCluskey, "We changed all four shock absorbers, the trackbar height and the front ride height, all of which transformed the car's handling for the better. We now have a car ready to run the 125,4 miles race."

The proof came during the qualifying session, as driver of the #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau/ Groupe Bellemare / MIA car reported that the car was much more balanced and easier to drive at the limit in the high-speed corners, allowing the team to devise a more effective race strategy. The start of the race on a wet track meant using « rain » tires, which started to overheat as the track dried out, given Jean-François's furious early pace. Rear grip went away, an essential factor when accelerating hard out of corners, as any lack of traction slows the car down all along the long straightaways, of which there are many at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

"We were quick in the rain at the start of the race, passing six cars almost easily on the first lap. We then lost traction as the track dried out during the first part of the race, and our pit stops to change back to "drys" went well and the car was quick again in the dry. Things went awry late in the race as I started to get smoke in the cockpit, then the transmission started to malfunction and I lost some power, slowing the car on the straightaways. Now we are turning towards the next race, on the Autodrome St-Eustache oval and our car is ready for the race next Saturday" explained the driver of the #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA car.

The NASCAR Pinty's Series now returns to the province of Quebec for the penultimate race of the season, on September 9, at the short Autodrome St-Eustache oval.

In addition, the "La descente : Downhill Soapbox Challenge", also in profit of the Quebec Cancer Foundation, will take place on 16 September. Teams will compete on the Père-Marquette (Trois-Rivières, Quebec) hill. Organized by the Young Chamber of Commerce of the Mauricie, the event will feature Honorary Presidents Jean-François and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. Come and see us and enjoy the many surprises we have in store for you.

THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NSCR100 RADIATOR

  • Full aluminum radiator, using optimal balanced material thickness to minimize weight.
  • Heavy gauge tubes for increased durability.
  • Reinforced first rows of tubes to increase mechanical resistance without compromising coolant flow.
  • The oil cooler, also made of aluminum, is incorporated in the radiator's tank, eliminating any additional weight, as well as extra hoses and connections, which frees up space under the hood of the car.
  • The design includes anchor points, which allow for installation and removal of the radiator in a faster and more efficient way (special tools are no longer necessary) all while allowing inclination of the radiator in the desired angle for optimized air flow.
  • Robust installation of the radiator on the shroud, using quick connectors as used in planes and high-performance race cars.
  • Integrated lightweight fan brackets allowing a secure and robust installation of a wide range of electric fans with minimal airflow restriction.
  • A standard threaded insert system for quick and reliable fan installation.
  • A universal connection inlet port offering painless customization of the coolant hose circuit, based on each racing team's needs.
  • Radiator vent relocation to avoid damages in the event of a light frontal collision
