A great show of tenacity and integrity from L.P. Dumoulin
NASCAR Pinty's Series: Eleventh race - Oval track
Autodrome St-Eustache - September 8th, 2018
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin demonstrated again last night the importance of perseverance over the full distance of a 256-lap Pinty's race, broken up by 13 caution periods, and held at the Autodrome St-Eustache. The Quebec driver fought back from two spins caused by hard hits from another driver, one on lap 136 after which he made his way back into third position, and a second push on lap 246 when he drove back to a solid top-10 position in his perfectly running car after a green-white-chequered finish. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team still lead the driver's championship, after a clean race from Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.
The day started with the car displaying a somewhat unstable behaviour in the first test session, very much unlike the car's behaviour in last week's private testing at this track. Things improved for the qualifying session, during which every driver reported a decrease in traction compared to the earlier practice session. Despite a persistent understeer, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin turned in the sixth quickest lap, a mere 0.123 sec. from the pole sitter.
"The team gave me a car that was certainly quick enough for a podium finish. We were in St-Eustache where all the drivers understand that 'Rubbin' is racing' and expect some contact. Things got a bit out of hand, however, as I was hit hard twice by the same driver. This is frustrating as we are in a very close fight for the driver championship and the subsequent spins and drops in the order neutralize the great work done by the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team and by our partners in fielding a top-flight car in the series. With two races left, we will continue to push hard towards great finishes and wins" added the driver with great confidence and still leading the 2018 driver championship.
Penultimate race of the season: New Hampshire Motor Speedway (September 21th and 22nd, 2018)
The NASCAR Pinty's Series will race outside of Canada for the first time when they visit the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Loudon, New Hampshire) mile oval for the "Granite 100" on September 21th and 22nd. This will be the #47WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare first outing on a track of this length, shape and shallow banking. The longish straight portions and slower low-banked corners mimic road course corners, with heavy braking at the entrance to corner 1 and 3, a slow transition to corner 2 or 4 close to the inside of the track and an exit using all the road right up to the outside wall.
