A FIFTH PODIUM FOR LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN THIS SEASON
Second place at home
NASCAR Pinty's Series: Eight Round - Urban track - Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières - August 10 to 12, 2018
The #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare Team came to the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières leading the Drivers Championship points, with the clear aim of increasing their lead in that contest. They succeeded, as Louis-Philippe Dumoulin made perfect use of his patience and race craft as he moved up to the lead pack with one third of the race to go. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin then moved up to second place on the last restart and defended the position until the end of the race.
On Saturday, Louis-Philippe scored the third quickest time in the midday practice session, proof of the quality of preparation work by the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team members. The good work continued before the qualifying session as all settings were validated and fine-tuned. But things were not all sweetness and light: "My sixth quickest time was not what I was looking for, as a serious vibration under braking caused me to lose a few tenths. We then had to change all the steering components and reset the front suspension in preparation for the race," noted Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.
After the race and a strong second-place finish, Louis-Philippe added: "We have been working hard over the past three years to raise our game and prepare race-winning cars. I learned to race here in Trois-Rivières, so the pressure was on. Starting from the third row allowed me to use some of my attention to analyze how the leaders were working lines, traffic, bumps, restart strategies, and using up their tires and brakes. I was watching the show and thought the fans must be enjoying it also. My stop for fuel was unbelievably good, adding fuel and resetting the suspension to give me a quicker car for the final laps, as they usually do. I used the caution periods to cool down brakes and tires, ensuring strong restarts late in the race, as had been the case up to that point. My #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car was really optimized for the end of the race."
Next event: Riverside International Speedway (Antigonish - Nova Scotia, 18 août 2018)
The NASCAR Pinty's Series summer blitz (8 races from June 16 to August 18) continues next weekend as the teams move on to Antigonish (Nova Scotia) for the Bumper-to Bumper 300 at the scenic Riverside International Speedway. The half-kilometre oval allows for passing in the inside as well as the outside lane, making for a spectacular show every year.
The Saturday-only event starts with practice at 11:30 am (ET), followed by qualifying at 2 pm (ET) and the 300-lap race scheduled for 7:00 pm (ET).
